Homeschool is new territory of a lot of people, and it can be difficult to organising and declutter your space to turn your home into an effective learning environment, so we thought we’d share some tips.
Set up your space
Similarly to working to home, you need to have a separate space in your house that is designated to learning, so that your children know to distinguish between time to learn and time to play. Make sure that breaks are taken away from this space, and that all resources are packed up when homeschooling is done for the day.
Mix it up
It can be hard to get children to focus for long periods of time (as I’m sure you’re aware!) so try to change up the activities regularly and don’t stay on the same topic for too long, to keep them intrigued and focused.
Don’t expect it to be plain sailing
Homeschooling is a new experience for both you and your children, so don’t expect it to be easy and work perfectly straight away, you aren’t used to teaching them, and they aren’t used to being taught in their home environment. Work through it at a steady pace, and don’t set concrete goals on what you feel like you should achieve until you’re more settled into this new environment, as this will be more beneficial in the long run.
Use websites
There are loads of resources available on the internet for you to use! Websites such as Twinkl, BBC Bitesize and Duolingo are all free sites that have loads of content that will be helpful for you.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Everyone is in the same boat, so don’t be afraid to reach out if you’re finding it difficult! Ask your friends who are in the same situation to see how they’re coping, or ask your children’s teachers for some tips on how to handle them!
